Requirements for Costa Ricans

ETIAS Requirements for Costa Rican Citizens

Costa Rica is one of 62 countries to enjoy visa-free access to the Schengen Area and, currently, its citizens can travel to Italy using just a passport.

This is set to change with the upcoming launch of ETIAS, the European Travel Information and Authorization System, which will be mandatory for Costa Ricans.

This means that, from the end of 2022, Costa Ricans will be required to register with ETIAS before heading to any of the European Schengen Area countries, including Italy.

Fortunately, applicants will be able to obtain the ETIAS for Italy online, the process is efficient and straightforward with the majority of requests approved within minutes.

Costa Rica nationals must meet the ETIAS for Italy requirements detailed below in order to be granted a visa waiver.

  • Date of birth and birthplace
  • Contact details including residential and email addresses

In addition to the above, Costa Ricans need to answer some health and security-related questions and indicate which European country they intend to enter first.

The above information is cross-checked across several security databases including VIS, SIS, and Interpol to ensure that the traveler poses no risk to the public. Greater security and safety for Italian residents and visitors alike.

ETIAS Italy Benefits for Costa Rican Citizens

ETIAS is being launched to increase safety and security across the Schengen Area, preventing individuals who pose a threat to Europe from entering legally. Tourists from Costa Rica will, therefore, be able to enjoy their time in Europe with greater peace of mind than ever before.

Once ETIAS is implemented, Costa Rica will remain part of Italy’s visa liberalization policy. ETIAS is not a visa, rather a visa-waiver, and the process is quicker and more straightforward than many visa applications.

Another great advantage of the ETIAS is that the same authorization can be used to travel throughout the Schengen Area. This means that people arriving from Costa Rica can visit the most beautiful places in Italy, France, Spain, and many other nations on one trip.

ETIAS is valid for 3 years or until the holder’s passport expires. ETIAS holders can stay in Italy, or any of the other Schengen Area countries, for a maximum of 90 days within a 180 day period.

It is also multiple-entry, this means that Costa Rica nationals can leave and reenter without the need to apply for a new visa waiver.
