Requirements for Israelis

Italy is a fantastic country to visit thanks to its vast history, beautiful landscapes, exciting cities, and delicious food. In fact, it’s perfect for a weekend or week-long trip from Israel, as travelers can fly from Tel Aviv to cities like Rome or Milan in under 4 hours.

However, starting in late 2022 Israelis traveling to Italy should be aware of the new procedures being put into place in the European Union.

During this time, the European Travel Information and Authorization System (also written as ETIAS ) will be implemented. The ETIAS is a new form of security verification that checks applicants through multiple databases to ensure that they are allowed to enter the Schengen Area. Obtaining an ETIAS is much quicker than traditional visa applications, and should only take travelers 15 minutes or less.

ETIAS Requirements for Israeli citizens

The process of obtaining an ETIAS Italy for Israelis is very easy. Travelers will only need three simple items, which are noted below:

  • A valid passport issued by Israel
  • A means of payment, such as a credit or debit card
  • A current email address

After travellers have gathered the ETIAS Italy requirements for Israelis, they are allowed to start applying for their ETIAS. In order to apply for an ETIAS to visit Italy, travelers must begin an ETIAS application from their computer, tablet, or phone. The ETIAS application asks straightforward questions such as the applicant’s personal data, passport details, and questions about their criminal and travel history.

Please note that applicants will be asked which Schengen Area country they plan to arrive at, as the traveler’s ETIAS authorisation will be verified at the port of entry. Israeli citizens are allowed to remain in the Schengen Zone for up to 90 days within a period of 180 days.

Once the application is finalized and submitted, it is normally processed within a few minutes. However, in some instances it may take up to 72 hours if the application needs to be examined in further detail. A confirmation letter will be sent to the applicant’s email address once the ETIAS is authorized.

Personal information for the ETIAS Italy

When applying for an ETIAS Italy for Israelis, travellers will be requested to give information regarding themselves and their passport. The information requested will be the following:

  • The applicant’s full name (first and last name)
  • Date of birth and place of birth
  • Gender
  • Contact details (including address and e-mail)
  • Passport identification number
  • Issue and expiration date of the passport
  • Nationality
This information will be sent to security agencies across Europe, such as Interpol, VIS, and EURODAC. Applications that have been flagged will be manually reviewed by an ETIAS officer, and may be rejected if they do not meet the standards.

What documents do I need for the ETIAS Italy?

Any Israeli citizen who wishes to apply for an Italian ETIAS must have a valid Israel-issued passport. This passport must be current when applying for the ETIAS and when entering Italy (or another Schengen country, if the applicant wishes to travel further). Furthermore, the passport must continue to be valid for at least three months after the date which the traveller intends to leave Italy and/or the Schengen zone.

If the passport that holds an ETIAS expires, the traveler will need to submit another application with their new passport. Once it is approved, the ETIAS authorization remains valid for three years. It cannot be renewed, but travelers can apply for a new authorization after their previous one has expired.

Israeli travelers who are planning to visit Italy should keep up to date on travel advisories and health precautions in both Israel and Italy in order to remain informed. However, there is no need to get special vaccines before traveling to Italy.

Although Italy boasts an excellent healthcare system and is generally very safe, travelers should still possess health insurance that will cover them during their travels. Israeli citizens traveling with prescription medications are advised to double check and make sure that their medication is legally allowed in Italy. The medication should be clearly labeled with the traveler’s name on it. In case of a health or medical emergency, the number for emergency services is 112 in Italy.
