The European Union has introduced the ETIAS in order to better secure the borders of the Schengen area. Panamanian citizens who plan to travel to Italy or the EU will need to obtain an ETIAS travel authorization before they depart. Thankfully, the process is quick and simple – in fact, it takes most travelers less than 15 minutes to complete and submit the application.
To make this process even easier, travelers can obtain an ETIAS from the comfort of their own home.
ETIAS Requirements for Panamanian citizens
- A valid Panama-issued passport
- A valid debit or credit card that will be used to pay the application fee
- A valid email address, to receive the ETIAS confirmation letter
Once these items have been gathered, travelers are able to apply for an ETIAS to visit Italy. This is a one-step process that involves filling in the online ETIAS application form.
The form will ask for the applicant’s personal details, such as their full name, date of birth, and nationality; their passport information; and questions regarding the applicant’s health history, criminal record, and recent travel.
The majority of ETIAS applications are processed within minutes after being submitted, although in rare cases processing may take up to 72 hours.

What documents do I need for the ETIAS Italy?
To obtain ETIAS Italy for Panamanians, travelers must be in possession of a valid passport. This Panama-issued passport must remain valid during the time the traveler’s application for an ETIAS authorization is submitted, as well as the entire time they are staying in Italy and/or the Schengen Zone.
The ETIAS authorization is valid for three years. The traveler can travel to Italy or the Schengen Zone anytime they wish during those three years, as long as the total stay is under 90 days in a 180-day period. If the traveler’s passport expires, he or she must apply for a new Panamanian passport and then re-apply for an ETIAS.
Panamanian families traveling to Italy need to take special precautions if they have children under 18, because minors must apply for their own ETIAS authorization. If a family member or guardian fills out and submits an ETIAS form on behalf of a minor, they must submit their own personal details along with the application.
