Requirements for Argentines

Currently, Argentines travelling to Italy are exempt from applying for a Schengen visa for Italy. However, in 2026, the European Union will introduce the European Travel Information and Authorisation System, or ETIAS.

ETIAS will be an automated screening system that will grant travellers authorised entry into the Schengen area before they travel. It will act as a visa waiver for all the countries currently exempt from applying for visas for Italy.

Once ETIAS is introduced, all Argentines must apply for ETIAS to visit Italy.

ETIAS Requirements for Argentine Citizens

From 2026 onward, Argentines travelling to Italy must apply for an ETIAS to visit Italy ahead of their trip.

To submit the application, applicants must enter their personal information and passport details and answer a number of security questions about their criminal and travel history.

To complete their ETIAS Italy for Argentines application, citizens of Argentina need:

  • A valid passport
  • A valid debit or credit card
  • A functioning email address

The online application can be filled out through a computer, tablet, or phone and will take only a few minutes to complete. Once completed, applications may take up to 72 hours to be processed. However, it’s expected that the ETIAS system will approve and deliver an approved travel authorisation within minutes.

Please note that minors will require their own valid ETIAS Italy for Argentines and valid passports to travel to Italy as of 2026. If a parent or guardian is completing an ETIAS application for a minor, they must provide their own personal information as part of the application.

Personal information for the ETIAS Italy

When they apply for ETIAS to visit Italy, Argentines must provide some essential information about themselves. The details include:

  • Full name as it appears on passport
  • Date and location of birth
  • Gender
  • Home address
  • Contact information (inc. phone number and email)
  • Passport number, issuing date and expiration date
  • Nationality on passport

In addition, ETIAS Italy requirements for Argentines state that travellers must indicate which Schengen area member state they intend to enter first, as ETIAS will allow Argentine citizens to travel to any of the Schengen member states for up to 90 days within a 180-day period.

Information will be gathered by the ETIAS system and checked against a number of EU security databases, including EURODAC, VIS, and Interpol.

Any application that triggers an alarm will be sent by the system for manual review. If an Argentine applies for ETIAS to visit Italy and is denied, they have the right to appeal the decision and provide the ETIAS team with further documentation to support their application.

What documents do I need for the ETIAS Italy?

To apply for an ETIAS Italy for Argentines, the most important document is a valid Argentine passport. The passport must be valid not only when completing the ETIAS application, but also upon arrival in Italy, and it must remain valid for at least 3 months following the visitor’s intended date of departure.

If a passport expires before the ETIAS attached to it, the ETIAS is rendered invalid and the traveller must apply for a new ETIAS to visit Italy.

An ETIAS is valid for 3 consecutive years but cannot be renewed once it has expired.
