Requirements for Brazilians
ETIAS Requirements for Brazilian Citizens
The European Union will launch ETIAS, an European Travel Information and Authorisation System, that will contribute to the security of the region and smoother border controls.
ETIAS launches in 2026. Citizens of eligible countries, including Brazil, will have to apply online for an ETIAS Italy before travelling to the country or other nations in the Schengen zone.
The ETIAS requirements for Italy require that previously visa-exempt travellers, such as Brazilian citizens, complete an online ETIAS Italy application before they travel to the Schengen area.
Brazilian travellers will be able to get their ETIAS Italy by filling out their personal and passport information on an online form.
The ETIAS application form will require that applicants answer a series of security questions with regard to their criminal and travel history.
Brazilian citizens enjoy from a visa exemption agreement with Italy. However, starting 2026 it will be necessary to apply for the electronic travel authorisation and meet the ETIAS Italy requirements for Brazilians.
Among the ETIAS Italy requirements for Australian citizens, applicants must have:

Brazilian minors will need a valid ETIAS Italy and a passport to travel to Italy. It is necessary to provide the identity of the person or company that he or she is representing. Therefore, parents or guardians can complete the application on behalf of their children. A parent or guardian must include their personal information when filling out an ETIAS application for a minor.

Upon arrival, a passport should be valid at least 3 months beyond the expected date of departure.
A Brazilian traveller’s passport must be valid when completing the ETIAS Italy application and it should have the minimum validity to travel to Italy.
If a passport expires before the ETIAS travel authorisation, it is necessary to renew the official travel document and apply for a new ETIAS with the new passport.
It will not be possible to renew an ETIAS visa waiver once it expires.
Medical info for Brazilian citizens
It is strongly recommended that non-EU citizens traveling in Italy or in another Schengen country get an international health insurance card or plan.
Emergency medical services in Italy consist of a combination of volunteer organizations that provide ambulance service supplemented by physicians and nurses. Brazilian travellers must cover medical expenses if they find themselves in need of these services during their stay in Italy.
Since 2017, the emergency telephone number for emergencies in Italy is 112, this number can be dialled for ambulance, police and firefighters.
ETIAS Italy Benefits for Brazilian citizens
The ETIAS travel authorisation will be implemented to meet several purposes. ETIAS will be a fundamental tool to identify individuals that may pose a threat to the Schengen Area.
ETIAS will contribute to a safer Europe. Other benefits that ETIAS will bring include:
- The ETIAS system will be able to make advance checks on individuals who wish to enter the region.
- ETIAS will deny authorisations to a person seen as a potential threat or risk to the EU.
- Improve internal security of all the member states.
- Prevent illegal immigration.
Obtaining an ETIAS visa waiver to Italy or the Schengen area will not have a negative impact on Brazilian travellers. Citizens of Brazil will be able to complete their ETIAS application for Italy in a few minutes.
It is also expected that most applications will be processed shortly after being submitted. When an application is approved the ETIAS visa waiver for Italy will be valid for 3 consecutive years and will allow multiple entries.
