Requirements for Albanians
ETIAS for Albanian citizens
The ETIAS visa waiver for Albanian Citizens is expected to launch in 2026 along with the rest of the ETIAS program.
Once implemented, the ETIAS travel authorisation system will allow citizens of more than 50 countries to travel to the Schengen territory visa-free.
Eligible travellers can continue visiting Italy without having to apply for a visa prior to departure.
Although Albania is a European country, it’s not part of the Schengen zone. Therefore, Albanians must get an ETIAS visa waiver to cross the border with Italy.
As the name suggests, the ETIAS visa waiver is not a visa, but rather a travel authorisation document.
ETIAS Italy for Albanian citizens: how to apply
To receive an approved ETIAS Italy travel authorisation, Albanians must fill out the online application form.
The application process is designed to be quick and straightforward. The applicant should have a reliable internet connection to enter their details.
Most of the application form focuses on personal, biographical, and contact information as well as the applicant’s travel plans.
Questions likely to be included in the ETIAS Italy application form include:
- Full name (which must match exactly the name featured on the applicant’s passport)
- Sex
- Date and place of birth
- Passport information including number and expiration date
- Address
- Contact information including a current email address
- The intended first point of entry within the Schengen area
ETIAS requirements for Albanian citizens
Albanian nationals wishing to travel to Italy with an ETIAS travel authorisation must comply with all the ETIAS requirements.
The most important document required during the ETIAS Italy application process is a valid Albanian passport. The passport should be valid for at least 3 months beyond the intended departure from the Schengen area
Health information for Albanians travelling to Italy
Generally speaking, the Schengen zone boasts very high standards of healthcare and Italy is no exception. However, all non-EU citizens are advised to purchase health insurance as they won’t be able to access the Italian national health service free of charge.
The Italian emergency service phone number is 112. Bring an Italian phrasebook with you in case you need to speak with a doctor or pharmacist. Tap water is potable in Italy.
Why is ETIAS being implemented?
As the ETIAS visa waiver is not a visa and eligible nationals used to be able to travel to Italy visa-free, it’s normal to wonder why the program is being implemented in the first place.
ETIAS is designed to benefit both Schengen countries and international travellers. On one hand, the process will be easy and straightforward and with just one ETIAS authorisation, visitors can move freely within the Schengen area for up to 90 days within a 180-day period.
On the other hand, ETIAS is expected to strengthen and streamline border security checks. The European authorities will have an easier, more secure digital system to keep international and immigration movements under control.
