Requirements for Colombians

ETIAS Visa Waiver for Colombian Citizens

Colombia is one of over 50 countries whose citizens may enter Italy visa-free. From 2026 onward, however, Colombians travelling to Italy are expected to get an ETIAS.

Unlike a traditional visa for Italy or the Schengen area, the ETIAS, or European Travel Information and Authorisation System, will authorise Colombian citizens entry into Italy before they leave Colombia.

The ETIAS Italy for Colombians is a visa waiver for Colombian visitors to Italy.

To satisfy the ETIAS Italy requirements for Colombians, they must be able to provide the following 3 items:

  • A valid passport issued by the Colombian government
  • A valid debit or credit card (for payment of the ETIAS application processing fee)
  • A working email address

Travellers who have all 3 of these requisites may apply for ETIAS to visit Italy by completing a short online application form.

The form has questions regarding the applicant’s personal information, passport details, travel history, and criminal record.

The application process for the ETIAS Italy for Colombians is entirely electronic and can be completed from the comfort of the applicant’s home or workplace on any internet-connected device.

Those who apply for ETIAS to visit Italy can expect to wait no longer than 72 hours for their application to be processed, and most applications are processed within minutes. Once approved, applicants are notified via email.

Colombians travelling to Italy with family members under 18 should know that following ETIAS Italy requirements for Colombians, minors must obtain their own, individual ETIAS Italy.

Parents or guardians who submit an ETIAS application on behalf of a child must also enter their personal information.

Any Colombian national wishing to apply for ETIAS to visit Italy must enter the following:

  • Applicant’s full name as it appears on passport
  • Date and location of birth
  • Gender
  • Address at which the applicant currently resides
  • Contact details – phone number, email address, etc.
  • Passport information, including identifying number, date of issue, and expiry date
  • Nationality as indicated on the passport

Additionally, Colombian applicants must indicate Italy as the country of first intended entry. However, ETIAS is valid to travel throughout the entire Schengen area for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. ETIAS applications are checked against several EU security databases, including VIS, Interpol, and EURODAC. Any ETIAS application that is flagged during this check will be sent for personal review by a member of the ETIAS staff.

In the event that an ETIAS application is rejected, the applicant has the right to appeal this rejection and provide supporting documentation for their application to the review team.

What documents do I need for the ETIAS Italy?

A valid Colombian passport. This passport must be valid at the time of application and arrival in Italy.

If the passport expires before arrival in Italy, ETIAS is rendered invalid and may not be used for entry into Italy.

To travel to the Schengen area, travel documents must always be valid for at least 3 months beyond the expected date of departure from the Schengen area.

ETIAS is valid for 3 consecutive years and is linked electronically to the traveller’s biometric passport.

ETIAS Italy Benefits for Colombian Citizens

ETIAS is a European-wide initiative to increase public safety within the Schengen area and make it easier for foreign visitors to move freely within the area.

The ETIAS Italy for Colombians will allow visitors from Colombia to enjoy increased security during their stay in Italy and all Schengen member countries.
