Requirements for Israelis
Starting 2026 Israelis travelling to Italy will need to get an ETIAS, the new electronic travel authorisation to visit Italy, and other 29 European countries.
The European Travel Information and Authorization System will be implemented to pre-screen visa-exempt third-country nationals before they travel to the EU.
The ETIAS is a form of security verification that checks applicants through multiple databases. Getting an ETIAS visa waiver will be a straightforward process.
ETIAS Requirements for Israeli Citizens
The process of obtaining an ETIAS Italy for Israelis is very easy. Travellers will only need three simple items, which are noted below:
- A valid passport issued by Israel
- A means of payment, such as a credit or debit card
- A current email address
After travellers have gathered the ETIAS Italy requirements, they may proceed to fill out the ETIAS form.
To apply for an ETIAS to visit Italy, travellers just need a device connected to the internet. The visa waiver application form is easy to fill out. Israeli travellers simply need to enter their personal details and passport data.
In the form, applicants should indicate the country they intend to visit first. The traveller’s ETIAS authorisation will be verified at the port of entry.
Israeli citizens are allowed to remain in the Schengen zone for up to 90 days within a period of 180 days.
Once the application is finalised and submitted, it is normally processed within a few minutes. However, in some instances, it may take up to 72 hours.
When approved, the ETIAS applicant is immediately notified via email.
Personal information for the ETIAS Italy
When applying for an ETIAS Italy for Israelis, travellers will be requested to give information regarding themselves and their passports.
The information requested will be the following:
- The applicant’s full name (first and last name)
- Date of birth and place of birth
- Gender
- Contact details (including address and e-mail)
- Passport identification number
- Issue and expiration date of the passport
- Nationality
Information entered on the form is contrasted in databases such as Interpol, VIS, and EURODAC. Applications that have been flagged will be manually reviewed by an ETIAS officer and may be rejected if they do not meet the standards.
What documents do I need for the ETIAS Italy?
Israeli travellers need a valid Israel-issued passport when applying for the ETIAS and when entering Italy (or another Schengen country, if the applicant wishes to travel further). Furthermore, the passport should still be valid for at least 3 months after the date on which the traveller intends to leave Italy and/or the Schengen zone.
If the passport that holds an ETIAS expires, the traveller must reapply for ETIAS with a new passport. This is because the authorisation is electronically linked to a traveller’s passport.
Once it is approved, the ETIAS authorization remains valid for 3 years. It cannot be renewed, but travellers can apply for a new authorisation when they need one.
Medical info for Israeli citizens
Israeli travellers who are planning to visit Italy should keep up to date on travel advisories and health precautions in both Israel and Italy in order to remain informed.
Although Italy boasts an excellent healthcare system and is generally very safe, Israelis are not covered by the Italian health care system. Therefore, getting health insurance is strongly recommended.
Israeli citizens travelling with prescription medications are advised to double-check and make sure that their medication is legally allowed in Italy. The medication should be clearly labelled with the traveller’s name on it. In case of a health or medical emergency, the number for emergency services is 112 in Italy.
ETIAS Italy Benefits for Israeli citizens
ETIAS Italy is meant to improve border checks. Israeli travellers should experience smoother arrivals when arriving in Europe. ETIAS is also meant to identify individuals that have committed identity theft or fraud or that may pose a security threat.
Overall, the ETIAS system is part of the EU’s efforts to make the region safer and limit illegal immigration.
