Requirements for Panamanians

There are big changes coming for Panamanians travelling to Italy. As of 2026, they will need to apply for an ETIAS, better known as the European Travel Information and Authorisation System. The European Union has introduced the ETIAS in to better secure the borders of the Schengen area.

Panamanian citizens who plan to travel to Italy or the EU must get an ETIAS travel authorisation before they depart. Thankfully, the process is quick and simple – in fact, it takes most travellers less than 15 minutes to complete and submit the application.

To make this process even easier, travellers can fill out the ETIAS form from the comfort of their homes.

ETIAS requirements for Panamanian citizens

In order to meet the ETIAS Italy requirements for Panamanians, applicants must gather the following items:

  • A Panama-issued passport valid for 3 months after the intended date of departure from Italy
  • A valid debit or credit card¡ to pay the application fee
  • A valid email address

Once these items have been gathered, travellers can apply for an ETIAS to visit Italy. This is a one-step process that involves completing the online ETIAS application form.

The form will ask for the applicant’s personal details, such as their full name, date of birth, and nationality; their passport information; and questions regarding the applicant’s criminal record, and recent travel.

The majority of ETIAS applications are processed within minutes after being submitted, although in rare cases processing may take up to 72 hours.

Panamanian travellers who wish to obtain an ETIAS should enter the following:

  • Full name
  • Place of birth
  • Birthdate
  • Gender
  • Home address
  • Contact details, including address, phone number, and email
  • Passport information, including passport number, date of issue, and date of expiry
  • Nationality

At the end of the application, travellers need to select the Schengen country of first intended entry. Meaning, the country they are going to visit, or the country they will arrive in first.

As part of the ETIAS agreement, travellers can stay in the Schengen zone for a maximum of 90 consecutive days within a 180-day timeframe. This means that they can travel beyond Italy and into other countries in the European Union on an ETIAS authorization.

Please note that the information listed above will be screened against various European security databases, which include EURODAC, Interpol, and VIS. If the traveller’s ETIAS application raises a flag, an ETIAS team member will review the application and make a decision.

If an ETIAS application is denied, the applicant may appeal the decision and provide evidence to support his or her stance.

What documents do I need for the ETIAS Italy?

To obtain ETIAS Italy for Panamanians, travellers must have a valid passport.

This Panama-issued passport needs to be valid for 3 months beyond the intended date of departure from Italy and/or the Schengen Zone.

The ETIAS authorisation is valid for 3 years. The traveller can travel to Italy or the Schengen zone anytime they wish during this period, as long as the total stay is under 90 days in a 180-day period. If the traveller’s passport expires, he or she must apply for a new Panamanian passport and then re-apply for an ETIAS.

Panamanian families with children must know that all minors also need an authorisation. If a family member or guardian fills out and submits an ETIAS form on behalf of a minor, they must submit their own personal details along with the application.
