Requirements for Paraguayans
Paraguayans can travel to Italy without obtaining a visa. However, in 2026, when the European Union introduces the European Travel Information and Authorisation System, or ETIAS, they will need one to travel to the country.
The ETIAS will function as an electronic visa waiver and will grant Paraguayan citizens authorisation to enter Italy before they depart for the country.
The ETIAS Italy for Paraguayans is expected to improve border checks for the EU.
ETIAS requirements for Paraguayan citizens
In order to meet ETIAS Italy requirements for Paraguayans, travellers from Paraguay must have all the following:
- A Paraguayan passport valid for a minimum of 3 months beyond the intended departure date from Italy
- A working debit or credit card
- A functioning email address
Once these conditions have been met, Paraguayans may apply for ETIAS to visit Italy.
To do so they can fill out and submit a straightforward online application form.
The form, which should take no more than a few minutes to complete, will request the applicant’s personal details and passport information. Additionally, there are a few security questions that need answering.
The vast majority of ETIAS applications are processed and approved within minutes after submission, though in occasional circumstances, processing may take up to 72 hours.
Paraguayans under 18 must also have a valid ETIAS upon arrival in Italy. Parents or guardians may submit an ETIAS application on the child’s behalf.
Personal information for the ETIAS Italy
Paraguayans travelling to Italy need to enter these details:
- Full name is it appears on passport
- Date of birth
- Place of birth
- Gender
- Home address
- Contact information, inc. phone number and email address
- Passport details, inc. number, date of issue, and expiry date
- Nationality
Alongside this personal information, ETIAS Italy requirements for Paraguayans dictate that applicants must include their intended port of entry into the Schengen Area on their application.
ETIAS Italy allows Paraguayan passport holders to visit any country in the Schengen area for 90 days within a 180-day period, not just Italy.
Personal and travel information is collected from Paraguayans travelling to Italy to compare ETIAS applications to various European security databases, including EURODAC, Interpol, and VIS.
ETIAS applications that trigger an alarm in these databases will be reviewed individually by an ETIAS staff member.
What happens if an ETIAS application from Paraguay is rejected?
If an ETIAS application is rejected, the applicant has the option to appeal this decision and provide supplementary documentation in support of their application.
What documents do I need for the ETIAS Italy?
To apply for ETIAS Paraguayans need a valid passport.
The passport must remain valid for a minimum of 3 months past the intended departure date from Italy and/or the Schengen zone.
Once approved, the electronic authorisation is valid for 3 consecutive years. The holder may choose to travel to Italy at any point during those three years.
However, if the Paraguayan passport to which the ETIAS is attached expires, that authorisation is no longer valid. If this occurs, it’s necessary to renew that Paraguayan passport and apply for a new ETIAS.
Medical info for Paraguayan citizens
There are not currently any special medical advisories regarding outbreaks, vaccinations, or general health threats for Paraguayans travelling to Italy.
In addition, it is recommended that Paraguayan visitors get travel or health insurance.
Paraguayans travelling to Italy with prescription medications should also be careful to store these medications in their original packaging, clearly labeled, in case of inspection at their port of entry or elsewhere in the Schengen area.
The number to dial for emergency services in Italy is 112.
ETIAS Italy Benefits for Paraguayan Citizens
The ETIAS is being launched by the EU with the aim of improving public safety within the Schengen area and reducing the likelihood of external threats entering the Schengen states.
It’s also expected that the system will contribute to smoother border controls, as the ETIAS system will have already pre-screened travellers before boarding.
