Requirements for Taiwanese

ETIAS requirements for Taiwanese citizens

Citizens of Taiwan will soon need to apply for ETIAS to visit Italy. The European Travel Information and Authorisation System will launch in 2026, and it will become a new entry requirement for Taiwanese citizens travelling to Italy and the Schengen area.

Taiwanese will maintain visa-free privileges, however they must get their ETIAS Italy visa waiver online prior to departure.

The aim of ETIAS is to boost safety and security across all the Schengen countries, including Italy, by preventing potentially dangerous individuals from crossing shared exterior borders legally.

ETIAS Italy for Taiwanese is obtained online in just a few minutes. To apply, citizens of Taiwan must have:

  • A valid passport issued by the Taiwanese government
  • A debit or credit card to pay the ETIAS for Italy fees
  • A current email address

Applicants who meet all the ETIAS Italy requirements for Taiwanese and successfully complete the online form will have their ETIAS linked electronically linked to their biometric passport.

Personal information for the ETIAS Italy

Taiwanese citizens should complete the online ETIAS for Italy application form with the following personal details and passport information:

  • Full name, exactly as it appears on the Taiwanese passport
  • The applicant’s date of birth and birthplace
  • Contact details including an email address
  • Passport details: number, issue and expiry date

Taiwanese travelling to Italy will also be asked a few security questions. It is essential that all information is provided accurately, any omissions or mistakes may lead to delays and even ETIAS rejection.

Once the ETIAS fees have been paid, the request is submitted for review. The details are automatically cross-checked against several international security databases.

Most Taiwanese ETIAS requests will be approved at this point, the permit is electronically linked to the passport and a notification is sent via email.

On the rare occasion that something is flagged up during the automatic screening process, the application is reviewed manually by the ETIAS Central and National Units.

Each case is analysed individually and only those considered a threat to the public are refused an ETIAS for Italy.

What documents do I need for the ETIAS Italy?

Taiwanese travelling to Italy must have a valid passport to get ETIAS. The passport should be valid for 3 months after they intend to leave the Schengen area.

It is not possible to transfer a visa waiver from one passport to another. This means that if the Taiwanese passport expires before the 3-year ETIAS validity period, a new authorisation must be obtained.

Similarly, Taiwanese applying for ETIAS with dual citizenship need to use the passport they will use to enter Italy.

Medical info for Taiwanese citizens

Taiwanese travellers are recommended to stay informed about the latest health advice for Italy.

Taiwanese passport holders are not required to show proof of health coverage to be granted entry to Italy. However, medical insurance is highly recommended for greater peace of mind and to cover expenses should medical services be required during the trip.

The Italian emergency services can be reached by dialling 112.

ETIAS Italy benefits for Taiwanese citizens

The European Travel Information and Authorisation System should contribute to improving security across the Schengen area. Not only will European residents benefit, but visitors will also enjoy added safety and peace of mind.

ETIAS works by pre-screening visa-exempt non-EU nationals before they reach Europe. It will work in conjunction with Europe’s visa liberalization policy whilst carrying out checks to ensure risky individuals are prevented from entering Europe legally.

Taiwanese can visit all the Schengen countries with ETIAS Italy

Thanks to border-free movement in the Schengen zone, it is not necessary to apply for a separate ETIAS for each country in the region.

Given that Taiwanese citizens have up to 90 days to explore Europe, they may decide to see nearby ETIAS countries such as France, Germany, and Austria on the same trip.

ETIAS Italy for Taiwanese citizens is valid for 3 years

The final benefit of ETIAS for Taiwanese is that the permit is valid for 3 years and is multiple-entry. ETIAS holders can return to Europe for 3 consecutive years without reapplying, provided each stay does not exceed 90 days in a 180-day period.
